SHARING MY STORY
HOW I BECAME A LION
One Saturday morning, I was attending a
School Back-Pack Distribution sponsored by
Senator Kevin Parker, in the REMEMBER TO
neighborhood park.
I went over to the table with some women who
were wearing a bright yellow vest and asked DONATE TO
some questions. I discovered that they were
members of Brooklyn Stuy Park Lions Club
who were serving as community volunteers.
After some introductory explanations and
clarifications, I was given some literature and
we exchanged contact information. My interest
was peaked. That night, I reviewed further
details online and completed an application.
About two weeks later, even before I had a
chance to mail the application, I received a
telephone invitation to attend a club meeting.
This first encounter was so enjoyable,
informative and business-like that I decided
that this setting would be a good fit for me. So,
I returned for the next month’s meeting.
Shortly after appropriate orientation, my
application was accepted, and I was inducted
as a member of the Stuy Park Lions Club.
That was three years ago.
