LIONS CLUBS SERVE
THE FLATBUSH COMMUNITY
St Paul’s Church in the Village of Flatbush (an Episcopal
Church in the Diocese of Long Island) has taken a leadership
role in serving the community in the Village of Flatbush. This
”
project called “Feed the Hungry Program grew out of the
COVID-19 pandemic. The church started feeding frontline and
essential workers, distributing meals to hospitals, nursing
homes and police precincts. On Thanksgiving Day church
members and friends of St. Paul’s (including Lion Hyacinth
Jeffers of Brooklyn Alpha) donated their time and resources to
prepare approximately 200 hot meals.
Lions and St. Paul’s members prepare meals for
distribution Out of the initial COVID-19 feeding, St. Paul’s in collaboration
with De Islands Caribbean embarked on the Feeding Ministry
Project. Distribution of prepared meals takes place every
Wednesday, on the Plaza at Parkside and Ocean Avenues.
Packages are prepared at St Paul’s before being taken to the
distribution location.
Of course, this project fits perfectly with our Lion’s Motto “We
Serve”. Therefore, when asked if Lions would partner with the
church on this project during the summer months we did not
hesitate. On July 21, 2021, Brooklyn Alpha, Brooklyn Clinton Hill
and Brooklyn Outreach in partnership with St. Paul’s prepared,
packed and distributed approximately 100 sandwiches (ham,
Lions working with members of St. Paul’s in the cheese, beef and turkey) with juice, fruit and water. On August
Village of Flatbush posing after feeding 18, 2021, the same three clubs together with Brooklyn Kings

bread, juice, water fruit, and snacks.
