GLOBAL CAUSES Vol IX – No: 1
around District 20-K1
ON DIABETES AWARENESS:
A Voice from the field.
In conjunction with Night Out Against Crime sponsored
by the Community Council of 110th. Precinct, the District
Diabetes Awareness Committee hosted a free
informational session for the community.
It was an honor and pleasure to serve the community
and engage adults and youth in a lively discussion on
“Know Your Snacks : Sugar Content.” In this open, casual Diabetes literature were available
forum, Lion Mildred Ramirez, (Diabetes Chairperson) and
members of her committee enlightened the audience
about the epidemic of Juvenile Diabetes and offered
preventative strategies that seemed to peak the interest
of the listeners, especially the children.
Thanks to the six (6) other clubs who participated, we
were able to reach about 1,000 community residents
This experience made me feel proud to belong to a
“pride” of Lions who work together to create a significant
impact on our community. With appropriate resources
from LCI, we can connect with other service providers Lion Lynda Canaii prepares for the event
and make a difference globally. Diabetes Awareness and
Prevention is important work that I want the District 20-
K1 Diabetes Committee to share with others who work
with me on the Parks Committee of Community Board 4
and the 110th. Pct. Community Council.
