District 20-K1 virtually welcomed ID Ernesto “TJ” Tijerina, as the guest of honor. He thanked District Governor
Anthony Cochran for the invitation and congratulated the 77 Clubs that have established a legacy for outstanding
.
fellowship and impactful “service from the heart” He declared that the theme “Growth Through Service……..Teaming
Together” is an appropriate description of our district.
ID Ernesto observed that District 20-K1 Lions stand together and stand tall. “Your hearts are open to serve and to lead
by example. Each one serves with kindness because kindness matters.” He emphasized that a complete Lion is one who can
make the connection between service and fellowship, as this is the key to success in Lionism.
He related his story of how and why he became a Lion and encouraged every Lion to go out and share his / her
personal story and explain why Lionism brings such fulfillment of purpose. He noted that the vision of service in
District 20-K1 has been in existence for over 100 years and congratulated the longest serving club, the Long Island
City Astoria Lions Club, established in 1921; followed by Flushing Lions Club, established in 1922. He stressed that
fellowship and service are directly connected to membership growth. Increase in quality membership provides more
helping hands to provide additional service. New Lions revitalize a club and re-motivate Lion members with fresh
ideas for fellowship and innovative service opportunities.
ID Ernesto encouraged the clubs to “close the door.” He challenged us to contact those Lion members who have not
been participating since the pandemic, and invite them to a project.
“District 20-K1 is a Bright Star that moves Lionism forward each time you respond to a need. Stay connected as one big
family, so the communities can benefit from your great service from the heart.” he concluded.
“Alone, we can do so little, together, we can do so much”
