AROUND THE DISTRICT
On March 22nd 2024, Lion Mildred Ramirez (Queens
United Lions Club) was honored for her outstanding
community service. She was one of five women to
receive a NYC Proclamation from Council Member
Francisco P. Moya, representing 21st District in
Queens, NY.
Attendees included PCC Deborah Harrison, Lions
Jose Santiago, Haydee Llanos, Nilsa and Nadia
Torres, Vincent and Tanya Laucella, Candida Diaz,
Martina Caldiero and Betty Cruz. Congratulations to the honorees
Lion Mildred is the first Dominican-American to
charter a Lions Club in Corona, Queens. She has
distinguished herself by organizing a partnership with
the Italian American Cancer Foundation, to offer free
mammograms. She planned a free Health Fair in
Flushing Meadow Park, in collaboration with over 35
community-based organizations to provide resources
to over 300 people. Included in her resume, is service
abroad to Mujeres Dejando un Legado in the
Dominican Republic. Other humanitarian projects
include coat and food drives for distribution to
migrants in homeless shelters, serving Thanksgiving
meals, and partnering with the NYP 110th Pct for
Youth Explore Toy Drive at Christmas.
She is the current New Voices Chairperson with
Hope to Walk (a program that has provided prothetic
legs to 17 people in the Dominican Republic). With Lion Mildred accepts the Proclamation
support from Queens Las Americas and Brooklyn
Caribe Lions Clubs, she founded the Women’s
History Month Celebration in District 20-K1
“There is no greater joy than when you serve from the
heart. The smiles are priceless and you leave the
person better than they were before” she declares.
