This year, despite the Covid-19 pandemic,
the Lions erected a 20 foot high tree, beauti-
fully
decorated with colorful lights. As the DJ
belted out popular holiday music, more than
100 safely masked residents greeted each
other with expressions of holiday wishes.
The evening began with an invocation led
by Pastor Beeram of the Community Wes-
leyan Church, followed by Democratic Dis-
trict Leader, Lion Richard David, who spoke
of the impact of this uplifting event against
the backdrop of the ravages caused by the
Covid-19 pandemic. The Chair of Queens
Community Board 9, Kenichi Wilson, was
also present at the event and commended the
RHSOP Lions for bringing holiday joy and
cheer to the residents in this special
way. City council member, Adrienne Ad-
ams, addressed the gathering and thanked
the RHSOP Lions for bringing happiness to
this neighborhood in Queens. She also
spoke poignantly about losing a parent to
the virus and extended condolences to all
those who have lost family and friends. The
“freshly minted “Assemblyman, Khalil An-
derson greeted the gathering and thanked the
RHSOP for their community service.
And then it was time for the main event!
The countdown was led by an enthusiastic
contingent of young residents. Then Lion
President, Romeo Hitlall, threw the switch
to light up the tree, and the community of
Richmond Hill erupted with cheers of “Oohs
and Yays”, as the giant Christmas tree took
form in the darkness of the night. It will
continue to stand imposingly at the Triangle
