CC INGRID ANDREWS-CAMPBELL,
CHAIRPERSON
Council Chairperson Ingrid Andrews-Campbell
welcomed all attendees to the redesigned Humanitarian
Award Celebration.
She explained that the word “humanitarian” evokes
thoughts about improving the lives of others or reducing
suffering. Associated with humanitarianism are the
attributes of compassion, selflessness, kindness, and
generosity. These are the distinctive characteristics of
Lions and their mission of voluntary service.
Referring to the song “We are the World,” which was
sung at the beginning of the event, she noted that it is so
appropriate. As Lions, we help to alleviate suffering and
promote the healing of others. This song addresses the
mission of the world’s largest service organization that
has responded to global causes and changed lives
through humanitarian service for 106 consecutive years.
In addition, Melvin Jones, our founder, would have been
celebrating his 145 birthday on this day.

“We are so proud of our humanitarian service that
assists local and global communities. But today, we
come together to celebrate with those Lions from Chairperson, CC Ingrid declares the celebration open
Brooklyn and Queens who have been honored for their
multiple acts of humanitarian service. Together, we can
make a difference and create a brighter future for all,”
she declared.
