Minister Dowers visits

PRISON“De Schie”

“DE SCHIE” prison in Rotterdam does not only have regular
prisoners but also houses extremely dangerous prisoners that
have a high escape risk.
This Facility is also used to incarcerate those convicted of terrorist
attacks. Another facility that deals with these types of prisoners
in Holland is “De Vught.” The reason why visiting these facilities
is so important is to get a better view of how Holland deals with
the arrest and discharging process.

This is very important since our prison has been evaluated
according to standards used in Holland and Europe. If we want
to meet the CPT standards we need to adapt the standards
implemented in Holland.

Minister Dowers visited different departments and conversed
with those in charge of these institutions. They exchanged ideas
on how to create new facilities in Aruba. The Minister also spoke
about the cooperation between the Aruban Government and
Dutch Government regarding the different facilities that support
and help Aruba. The Dutch Government is very happy with the
cooperation.
The next few days the Minister will meet with more Justice
Departments and the Secretary of State in charge of Prisons in
Holland.
