B Types of Visual Aids

                  1. Objects and Props
Real objects or properties can be used in a presentation or public speaking. They
can attract audience attention and connect them on an emotional level. Showing the real
item can make it clearer for our audience to understand the meaning of the
presentation. For example, if we are presenting about traditional costumes in Indonesia,
we can bring kebaya, songket or bajubodo and show them to the audience. The physical
presence of those things can create powerful and memorable metaphors. Another
example is when we are presenting about safety riding. We can show the audience a
motorcycle helmet. Instead of listening and reading words on a screen, seeing, holding,
touching, or even smelling the real objects will give the audience a new experience. We
can let the audience touch and pass the item so the audience can view it in detail.
However, there are some considerations for using objects or props for a presentation in
a large group. If we place the objects and props in front, they will be out of sight. If they
are passed around, it will be time consuming and distract audience attention.

                        a. Demonstration

Demonstration can be useful in a presentation to show how something
is done. It can help audiences better understand the concept. For example, in
a presentation about first aids in a car accident, the presenter can
demonstrate how to perform CPR (Caldio Pulmonary Resuscitation) in an
                             emergency case.
Before performing the demonstration, we must rehearse and estimate
how long we need to do it. Back-up plans are also needed in case the first
plan doesn’t work. Make sure that the entire audience can easily watch the
                             demonstration.
