ISBAR
The ISBAR framework represents a standardized approach to communication that can be used in
any situation. The ISBAR communication tool can help to facilitate effective communication among
members of the interprofessional healthcare team when communicating information about a patient or
during handover.
The framework comes from SBAR and originated in the US Navy for use in nuclear submarines and the
airline industry. It is initially used in those two areas because it assists in the transfer of important
