C. CONVERSATION
A board of directors is having a meeting to discuss a proposal. Practice this dialog in group.
Chair: Good morning, everyone. Since we’re all here in this boardroom, let’s get started. We’re here
today to talk about Peter’s proosal. Peter proposed to increase the budget for the IT project. Now, I'll
go round the table and ask your opinion about it. So, starting with Simon.
Simon: In my opinion, increasing the budget for the IT project is not our prority right now because..
Claire: Excuse me for interrupting. I reckon that IT is fundamental for the future of our company.
Chair: Let’s let Simon finish his point, Claire.
Claire: Okay.
Simon: Thank you. I’m afraid I don’t agree with the idea of raising the budget for the IT project. It is too
much money at the moment.
Claire: Raising the budget for the IT project is a great idea. It will give us more benefits.
Chair: I don’t see what you mean. Could you explain it, Claire?
Claire: As far as I’m concerned, by increasing the budget for the IT project, our company will work more
efficiently and it will maximize productivity.
Daniel: I'm afraid I don’t agree with that idea. It seems to me that at the moment, with the current
economic situation, It's out of the question. We don't have any extra money.'
Tom: I think it’s an interesting idea, but we need to wait until our condition improves. Our financial
condition does not support it right now.
Jimmy: I don’t have the problem with the proposal. So, I would go along with it.
Cindy: I agree with Tom. Let’s wait until June or we can address this proposal in the coming AGM.
Right now, we must save, not spend.
Chair: All right, everyone. To sum up, Peter’s proposal is not approved for the time being. We will
review it again in the next few months, after our financial condition is stable. So, I declare that the
meeting is now closed.
