Bone is the most rigid connecve ssue. It is made up of a very hard matrix
of inorganic salts (mainly calcium salts), which are deposited around collagen
fibers. The inorganic salts make bone rigid, while the protein fibers make it
strong and elasc. Most of the vertebrate skeleton consists of bone, protecng
internal organs and providing rigid support for muscle aachment.

Another type of connecve ssue is composed of specialized cells that
accumulate and distribute parcular molecules. They include adipose ssue and
            red blood cells.

Adipose tissue consists of loose connecve ssue in a limited matrix in
which the fibroblasts enlarge and store fat. It is located beneath the skin and
around organs, such as the heart and kidneys.

Red blood cells, called erythrocytes, are small, biconcave, disk-shaped
cells devoid of nuclei. The red pigment hemoglobin is responsible for its red
color. They funcon in transporng oxygen and carbon dioxide in blood, and
            storing essenal nutrients.
