      year….

It is heartening and reassuring to see increasing involvement from RFMs and ECPs at NCPS in the recent
years. It is their curiosity, innovative ideas and vision, complemented by support and mentorship of

mid/advanced careers colleagues, which holds the promise for the future of psychiatry and furthers the
      mission of NCPS.

As I start this council term in my new role, I am aware of many existing and rising challenges around us,
including but not limited to prolonged pandemic, social injustice, climate change, gun violence, war re-
lated disaster, displacement and trauma. In the current era, our evolving roles as psychiatrists are more

complex yet crucial than ever before. As we work together to fight these challenges in our collective and
individual capacities, here at NCPS, I would like to focus primarily on following key areas as president:

      • Maintaining and promoting financial health of NCPS and cost effective membership benefits.

      • Promoting and practicing inclusion with equity, respect, diversity and anti-discrimination, not only in
provision of healthcare to our patients but also our care of each other.

      • Emphasizing the important role of psychotherapy in psychiatric care by bringing psychotherapy fo-
cused sessions in our educational conferences.

      • Increasing opportunities for RFMs and ECPs continued involvement in NCPS.

I look forward to our work together as I foresee a productive year and follow the footsteps of my prede-
cessors. Please do not hesitate to contact me or our executive director, Maggie Furrow at info@ncps.org

to share your interests, achievements, suggestions, feedback and ideas.

      With gratitude,

      Farah Zaidi, MD

In all the years I've been associated with the Northern California Psychiatric Physician newsletter, I have

never been as impressed and moved as I was reading Dr. Yelena Zalkina's Reflections pertaining to her
experience immigrating from Russia, thirty years afterwards horrified by the "war" perpetrated on the
      Ukraine.

Please consider submission of this brilliant essay to APA as an example of the creative writing that is na-
tive among Northern California district branch members. It illustrates the complexity and morality of the
inner life of a practicing psychiatrist who is also a world citizen.—Raymond Reyes, MD
