May and June are months of transition for NCPS. We welcome a new president and new members of our
Council and in this edition we profile our new councilmembers.

Also in May, after a long hiatus, the APA held its first in person annual meeting since Covid, in New Orle-
ans. Those of us who went, found that reestablishing connections with colleagues was a powerful experi-
ence. Raymond Reyes and Barbara Weissman write separate pieces about their experiences at the APA As-

sembly Meeting, which occurs in conjunction with the Annual Meeting. In the past, we have also pub-
lished a fuller summary of Assembly actions. A summary that is written by James Polo. This time we
chose to share the more personal perspectives of Barbara and Raymond, along with a list of the Action Pa-
pers that were approved. If you would like to know more about what happened at the Annual Meeting
please let me know and I will be happy to share Jim’s notes.

In addition, Victoria Cabanela writes about her path to becoming a psychiatrist, and the challenges she
faced coming from the Philippines to the United States. Randall Weingarten emailed me in the Fall of
2017 and I was so moved by his eloquence that I decided to reinstate the View from the Couch column, a
column that talks about the personal experience of psychiatric practice. In this edition, he writes about his
decision to retire and, as usual, leaves me moved by the deft way he writes about the extraordinary expe-

riences all of us have as psychiatrists. We will miss his contributions.

Please share your thoughts, insights and experiences with your fellow
members, to be published in our next Psychiatric Physician issue.
