The Africans ‘left behind’

            The Africans ‘left behind’

21 century Africa has progressed much further than many people realise. And individual

African governments have well-established programmes to develop the infrastructure
            needed for a self-dependent economy.

But Africa is vast. It will take still more generations for the required kind of pan-

African development to reach all regions. Not every region of Africa is blessed with the
conditions that make economic development easy. And within individual African countries

the government, like every other government, has to prioritise how it commits its budget
            spending.

So for many years in the future there will be countries, regions within countries and

individual communities which will need help from the international community.
Mature m’zungu economies are still benefiting from the proceeds of the slave trade.

According to Nathan Nunn’s study 72% of the average income gap between Africa and the

rest of the world would not exist today if it were not for that slave trade.
