at least 110. The AGCT was essentially an intelligence test. All the in-
terviewers in our group had scored in Group 2. I scored in Group 1 with
a rating of 130, which put me in the top 2 percent of all soldiers.

on, referring to records we prepared of our interviews. He posted this on

            heard no more of that.
Most of the fellows simply did their job. It seemed to me that
my assignment was an opportunity to become a good interviewer, so
I worked on developing skilled interviewing techniques. One day we
were assembled for a test. Information was supplied exactly as though
we were interviewing a new inductee. In terms of speed of interviewing,
two of us were rated at the top. In terms of quality of the data secured, I
            was rated the best.

with anything. Our cooks ruined perfectly good raw food. For example,
fried eggs were served to us cold in congealed grease. Some of us were
grateful the days they served hard boiled eggs because they couldn’t do
much to ruin them. Though only weighing 159 pounds when I entered
the Army, I actually lost weight.
To me, this was a situation to be avoided. A Lieutenant who
had been assigned to our unit for only a few weeks had impressed me
as being capable. He had then been assigned to Ninth Service Com-
