then give you some updates on that. Finally, I will share news
about some new exciting vocal works under the overall
theme of ‘Nature Notes’. Happy Reading!

               ‘The Wondrous Cross’

On the back of my first album – ‘When I consider your
heavens’ released three years ago, I felt motivated to
produce another CD. But what should be the theme?

I have always loved the words of hymns and the way they
convey the truths of the faith in simple and poetic form. So, I
embarked on composing new tunes to popular hymns. Why
not stick with the original tune you might say? Well, often
the tunes we sing now are not the original. A new tune helps
us to see the hymn afresh. The choral nature adds another
dimension. Finally, I use different instrumental
accompaniments to make each piece truly unique. So, over
three years, twelve new songs were written.

The choir performing them is called ‘Alleluia Voices’. It is
almost the same choir that sang in the first recording, a good
sign I wasn’t putting people off! Half was from my church,
Dundonald Church, and the remainder coming from friends
of Wimbledon Choral Society of which I am a member.
Rehearsals started in September 2019 and ran through to the
end of the year. We then had three recording sessions in
January and February under the fine recording leadership of
‘Coviello Productions’. Soon after that, the pandemic struck. I
thank God that we managed to complete the recording in
time. Here is a photograph from one of our recording
sessions. It was a cold winter’s day but our wonderful brass
               quintet kept the atmosphere warm!
