face, many of us have had to embrace the virtual choir with
associated Zoom rehearsals, audio mixing and video editing.
Who would have thought that would be the case at the
beginning of the year? A lot of people, including myself, have
been on a steep learning curve to use these tools effectively.
Although I would clearly prefer the social interaction that is
so much part of the enjoyment of a choir as well as the buzz
of a live performance, the production of virtual choir videos
has some benefits. It keeps people connected with music - so
important during this season. Also, the end result can be
surprisingly pleasing and easily shared with others.
Here is one video I did early on with my church choir. It is the
famous hymn “Guide me, O my Great Redeemer”. Writing
the trumpet descant in the final verse was fun. Even though
not a true trumpet player, the sound libraries now in our
notation software give pretty good results!
