education and allow students and educators to have more diverse and global learning
experiences. Some examples of cross-border cooperation that can be applied to the learning
process:
1. Global research projects: Schools and universities from different countries can work
together on global research projects, such as monitoring climate change, studying
endangered species, or investigating global social issues. They can share their data
and research over the Internet.
2. Cultural Exchange: Students from two schools or universities in different countries
can participate in tandem classes where they learn each other's language and culture.
They can communicate via e-mail, video conferencing or online learning platforms.
3. UN Diplomacy Simulation: Students can participate in a UN diplomacy simulation
or Model UN that involves schools from around the world. They play the role of
diplomats and work together to find solutions to international problems.
4. Collaborative art or music projects: Schools can work together on an art or music
project that involves students from different countries. They can create art together
or perform in an online music concert.
Pusdatin Kemdikbud took the initiative to pilot internet-based collaborative learning
on the learning portal edukasi.net (now its called Rumah Belajar) in 2005-2006. At that
time, internet access in schools was still very limited, so only a few teachers from five
schools in different regions of Indonesia could participate in collaborative learning
activities. One of the topics raised at that time was about forest fires. This topic was
interesting because there were many forest fires in Sumatra and Kalimantan at that time.
Through this collaboration, students in Jakarta (Java) can understand about the forest fires,
while students in Kalimantan and Sumatra can also exchange information about the forest
fires, which turned out to have different characteristics in each region.
Collaborative online learning is an approach where students and teachers work
together online to achieve common learning goals. This approach combines the benefits of
online learning with collaborative elements that allow students to interact, discuss, and
collaborate effectively in a virtual environment. Collaborative learning can be applied to
