GRAPHICS
Graphics is a problem-solving subject that challenges the
student to use her imagination to solve problems graphically.
The understanding of the different topics in the course is achieved by practicing drawing
different examples. Every problem needs the drawing rules applied in different ways, so
practice is the best means of learning. Students are encouraged to attempt questions before
viewing answers.
What will I learn in Graphics class?
Course content:
Sketching, Drawing with T-squares and Set squares, computer design, product design.
Who would this subject suit?
Suits students who enjoy practical subjects. Part of the STEM subjects. Students who enjoy drawing
and problem solving really excel at graphics.
What is the Junior Cycle Exam like?
Consists of one 2-hour exam, with 2 classroom-based assessments and an assessment task.
Type of Homework/Projects/Assignments related to Graphics
Homework consists of Sketching, researching product design, drawing, assessment task on Sketching,
assessment task using Computer Aided Design
Is learning graphics similar to anything I did in primary school?
Geometry (shapes) in Maths, Art, Sketching,
Progression after the Junior Cycle
Graphics needs to be completed before students can do Design Communication Graphics for Leaving
Cert.
Career Note
Technical Graphics helps you to think in a more logical
and creative way. You will be able to communicate
information using diagrams and sketches. You will
have learned how to present information in a neat and
organised fashion. This subject will be of use to you if you
want to progress into career areas such as architecture,
construction, or engineering. It is not an essential
requirement for most courses but there are some courses
that will look for DCG OR Art.
