Deepening your special relationship will from time to time require forgiveness, empathy, compassion and understanding. These gestures prioritize the needs of your partner.
As partners, we must lift one another up, but we also need to lean and be taken care of when we need it. When people do that together, for one another, the relationship is “balanced,” and “transformative.” I have used the word “transformative,” a few times so far. Balanced relationships provide opportunities to heal and strengthen one’s partner. This process takes us out of a self-oriented perspective and focuses us on the needs of the partner. As you go through life with an intimate partner you will encounter bad news, conhlict and adversity outside the context of your relationship. Everyone experiences hard times. Loving partnerships help reduce the stress of these rough patches. One very good reason why we expend the energy to manage and maintain close relationships is because we need our partners to help us realize when things are tough, they are your rock, your anchor.
Equity and Balance
Many of us have reached destinations or milestones in a relationship where we become exhausted and conclude:
“I am not getting anything (or enough) out of this relationship.”
