The partner who is bothered can always say:
“I do not want to talk about it.”
This also perpetuates the suspense and keeps the hinger of mystery pointed squarely in the partner’s eye.
Or you can go for the marathon and say,
“Are you still mad at me?”
And the offended partner can say (or scream):
“I’m wasn’t mad at you! But now that you keep torturing me, now I am pissed.”
You can accuse the person asking “what’s bothering you” of being annoying , or you can say something really snarky like:
“The fact that you don’t already know blows my mind.If you don’t know I am not going to tell you. Figure it out.”
The bottom line is that if you can’t hide what’s bothering you and cannot get over whatever it is that is upsetting you, and your partner is interested in hixing problems they cause — tell them. Tell them because there are too many other ways things can get worse if you don’t.
