Returning to Normal Life

y the time my six months of rest were over, my TB lesion had healed, and I was ready to rejoin the world. I spent the
Bsummer enjoying life, including trips to the cottage and reconnecting with friends. Some of my closest friends were
younger than me and still in high school, like Bob Marquis and Stan Hannaford. They were often around on weekends,
and I also spent a lot of time with Pete Anderson, who lived nearby. Pete and I played a lot of ball together. We also would
skate and play hockey at the nearby outdoor artificial ice rink in Inch Park, just a block from my house. Pete’s story was
bittersweet. He never went to university but moved to California and later to Reno, Nevada, where he became a lineman.
Pete stayed in touch with Bob Marquis, and I learned recently that he passed away after building a successful life for
himself. His memory, like so many others from that time, remains part of the fabric of my life.
