The Birth of Our First Child, Sharon
(November 1963)
ur daughter Sharon was born during my final year of medical school. Balancing medical school, parenthood, and
OHelen’s role as a nursing instructress was challenging, but it became a defi ning experience for us. Sharon’s arrival on
November 12, 1963 brought so much joy and love into our lives, and it marked the beginning of a new chapter for our
growing family.
Aunt Charlene Truscott, played an essential role in our family life. Widowed and living nearby, she often helped care for
Sharon. Charlene was an artist in her own right and had two daughters, one of whom was a researcher in Newfoundland.
Her presence and support were invaluable during a demanding period in our lives.
