Exceedance Type and Notification Period

Exceeding the MCL for PFOA is considered a Tier 2 Violation meaning it is

not considered an acute threat and as per regulations, notification is not

required immediately (within 24 hours).

As our customers you have a right to know what happened and we are

required to issue Public Notification to all customers who receive any

amount of water from the groundwater treatment facility.

Developing the notification wording and audience, and obtaining NJDEP

approval takes time – as does printing and mailing. The mailing was

completed within the regulatory notification period established under the

federal Public Notification Rule.

We have since concluded the need to expand the notification area and

will be referencing the notice in multiple languages in an upcoming

mailing.
