PFAS Research is Ongoing
Current scientific research suggests that exposure to sufficient
levels of certain PFAS over many years, may lead to adverse
health effects such as developmental delays, disruption of
hormones in the body, low infant birth weight, adverse effects
on the immune system, among other effects.
Research about health effects of PFAS is still ongoing and there
is sufficient information to develop a drinking water standard
for PFOA. There is more information on adverse effects of
PFOA in humans and laboratory animals than for many other
contaminants with drinking water standards.
