1.7.2.2 Air traffic incident
An air traffic incident is an aviation incident primarily related to air traffic
service regulations, where aircraft pass each other at such close proximity, or
where other difficulties caused by inadequate procedures, non-compliance
with procedures, or failures of ground-based equipment result in a hazardous
situation.
Refer to EU Regulation 376/2014, which we recommend reviewing.
1.7.2.3 Examples of aviation and air traffic incidents
Below are examples of various flight incidents and air traffic incidents.
The list is not exhaustive.
- Risk of collision with an aircraft, terrain or other object or other hazardous
situation where a evasive maneuver was not required (including driving).
- Unauthorized runway approach where an evasive maneuver was not
required, or departure from a taxiway, apron or stand.
- Loss of orientation in relation to current position or another aircraft or
orientation/navigation problems that require ATS (Air Traffic Service)
assistance for safety reasons.
- Incorrect programming, updating or encoding in equipment used for
navigation or performance calculations, or use of incorrect data that is of
significance for the planned execution of the flight, including errors in the
GPS (Global Positioning System) equipment used and in associated
databases.
- Use of the aircraft's emergency equipment or prescribed emergency
procedures to handle a situation. An event that results in a Mayday or Pan
call.
- Unsatisfactory functioning of any emergency system or emergency
equipment, including exits and lighting, even when used for training or
testing purposes.
