Human Performance

                2.10 Good advice

                 - If you doubt the outcome of a decision or your ability to assess the situation

you are in, seek help via radio immediately.

                 - Know the frequency where you can get help. Do not hesitate because you

are afraid of putting yourself in a bad light. False pride has cost many lives!

                 - Use the emergency frequency if in doubt. It is there to help the pilot.

                 - Abort the flight as soon as you feel you cannot assess the situation or feel

uncertain. Do not continue expecting things to improve on their own – you

                    have left it to chance!

                 - If you feel pressure from your surroundings, try to prevent it from affecting

                    your decisions.

                 - Remember, you are responsible for the decisions you make as the pilot-in-

                    command during a flight.

If you find yourself in a situation like

the one shown in the image, you have

                left something to chance.

It might be a lack of situational

                awareness, or a common

                phenomenon called "get-there-itis" –

the decision to fly despite dangerous

                weather.

Remember: It is better to sit at home wishing you were flying, than to fly in

bad weather wishing you were sitting at home.
