Commercial Air Transport:
The transportation of passengers, cargo, or mail for compensation or hire.
Co-pilot:
A pilot who is not acting as the pilot-in-command (PIC) on an aircraft requiring
more than one pilot, excluding a pilot solely aboard to receive flight instruction
related to a certificate or rating.
Flight Time:
For airplanes, powered sailplanes, and VTOL aircraft, flight time is the total time
from the moment an aircraft begins moving under its own power for takeoff
until it is stationary after landing.
For helicopters, flight time is the total time from when the helicopter's rotor
blades begin to spin until the engine is shut off and the blades stop after the
flight.
Pilot-in-Command (PIC):
The pilot designated to have control and responsibility for the safety of the
flight.
Powered Sailplane:
An aircraft equipped with one or more engines that, if the engines fail, still has
the characteristics of a glider.
Private Pilot:
A pilot who holds a certificate that prohibits them from operating an aircraft
for compensation, except for instructional or test flights as specified.
Competency Test:
A demonstration of skills for the renewal or extension of ratings, including any
oral exam required by the examiner.
Renewal:
An administrative action to renew a rating or certificate that has expired for a
further defined period, provided certain established requirements are met.
