mysteries, there was a thought that Rose could not dismiss. What
on earth had happened to William. Regardless of his reasons for
being here, something very bad had happened to him and it was
tearing him apart. There was one thing clear, what ever it was, he
also didn’t understand it.
He was suffering, not physically but certainly in his mind. His
pain appeared similar to the look of the broken men arriving
daily on the trains from Europe. Those men had seen death and
suffering on a massive scale and no matter what, those injuries
would never leave them. They could not be healed. In fact, they
were cursed to fight this illness for the rest of their lives. They,
like William were now fighting the battle within.
