Smt. Gowri Prabha Prasad, who believes in an all-round development of children
explained that children must grow up to their full potential nurture multiple
intelligences, and become holistic members of the society.
The programme was designed to spread across two days with exclusive focus on
Critical Thinking in the first half (Day – 1) after which the attention was shifted to
Creative Thinking in the second half (Day 2) of the workshop.
With an aim of preparing the students for real world challenges and equipping them
with 21st century skills, this training was conducted to raise the confidence and
broaden knowledge in educators to adopt different techniques and methods of
encouraging students to become more creative and develop their critical thinking
and problem solving skills.
On Day – 1 the session was divided into six sessions:
1. Pathways to thinking
2. The building blocks of logical reasoning
3. Fun and fallacies
4. The creative building blocks of problem solving
5. Fostering critical literacy, and
6. Applying critical thinking: Augmentative writing
On Day – 2 the session was divided into five sessions:
1. The creative learner
2. Lateral thinking
3. Approaches to foster creative thinking – problem based learning
4. Approaches to foster creative thinking – the design thinking process
5. Assessing creativity
The trainers throughout the sessions gave a broader understanding of the necessity
of 21st century skills and helped all the participants to:
• Broaden knowledge about the importance of developing creativity and critical
thinking.
• Learn activities and games aimed at shaping creative thinking.
• Learn how to engage students and motivate them to establish effectively.
collaboration and develop problem solving skills.
• Learn how to lead and deliver experiential activities to stimulate the students’
creativity in problem solving.
This training programme served as an ideal eye-opener on the relevance of creativity
and critical thinking to all the teaching faculty who participated.
