MIDFIELD
The midfield gets a boost with the return of Katie
Larmour, who suffered a season-ending injury in the
opener last season after starting 27 games in her first
two seasons. She’ll be joined by a collection of
talented returners.
“Katie Larmour is going to be returning into the
lineup,” Civico explained. “She is an explosive,
dynamic player who can eliminate and really get
the ball forward. We’re looking for her to contribute
in the midfield along with Milena Redlingshoefer.
Milena’s been playing a little bit in the midfield as
well in the spring. She has the ability to play a little bit
higher up the field. We’ll have Gianna Mancini and
Gracey Butsack who have a lot of experience -- I
expect those two to play a lot through the midfield
and outside mid positions. They both have speed
and athleticism on the outsides.”
OFFENSE
The Scarlet Knight attack group is headlined by senior
captain Alanna Gollotto. Alongside her are a number of
skillful players, both new and old.
“Up front, Alanna Gollotto will be returning, we moved
her to the forward line and she just was able to create so
much for us up there,” Civico detailed. “She’s confident
holding the ball, she can create, she’s been working on
her shot variety over the spring. Kassidy Shetler is a player
who I'm really hoping is going to have a breakout year.
She’s just technically a really good player. She’s just a fun
player and when she’s feeling confident and playing her
game she’s really threatening. Tayla Parkes has gained a
lot of confidence over the past year. She can eliminate
and earn a penalty corner probably better than anyone
on the team and I'm looking forward to her contributing
in the
front.”
Additionally, Rutgers will welcome a transfer to the
field for her first time playing on game days as a
Scarlet Knight. After sitting out last season as a
transfer from Penn State, Clayre Smith is eligible for
competition and anticipated to make an instant
impact. “Clayre Smith will break into the lineup for
the first time here at Rutgers,” Civico detailed. She’s
a transfer, she’s incredibly athletic. Probably the
most fit player with the Rutgers field hockey program
and she has been scoring some outstanding goals in
the spring.”
