Activities

 Recreation Hour is from 11-12 every morning. It is a nursing responsibility to run “Rec
Hour” every day. Many clients just enjoy colouring in the lounge with staff but there are

other arts and crafts activities available on the art cart in the nursing station. It is a good
way to get to know all the patients on the unit.

 There are other supplies/activities on the cart or in the nursing station that you can do

with your patients outside of Rec Hour. Some nurses lead patients in stretching, some
put on music and dance with patients.

 Engaging in activities with your patients helps them get to know you and reduces the
power dynamic. You can be seen as more of a person than “the one who gives
medication”.

 Please do not allow patients to take markers, writing utensils or crayons in their room.
