Nursing Duties
Now that Health Care Aides no longer work in PICU, nurses have to perform these duties
rather than delegate them.
Please make sure your patient showers regularly. Some patients make take days to
convince to have a shower so you need to be gently persistent.
Please make sure your patient is wearing clean clothes. Nurses now do laundry for their
patients and are responsible for keeping their belongings safe.
Make sure your space is tidy and stocked. Go to 7M and get the items you need so that
when you start your shift you have everything you need to: give an injection, start an IV,
dress a wound. Make sure patient hygiene products (combs, toothpaste, deodorant) are
available.
Please keep supply shelves neat and organized. There should not be six different things
in one bin. Items should be grouped so they are all together and can be found easily.
Please do not keep food or peri-care products in the nursing station. Go to the clean
utility room when you need something.
Please do a safety check of your patient’s room at least once per shift. Document that
you have done it.
