Membrane Bioreactors (MBR’s)
Membrane Bioreactors (otherwise known as MBRs) have 2 types of design
applications known as Internal and External.
Internal membranes come in many forms, including sheets of perforated
membrane, or tubes.
An Internal/Submerged MBR is designed to be placed within an activated
sludge basin to increase the ability to remove additional suspended solids.
Each tube is hollow, encased by a perforated shell and look like spaghetti.
The hollow center of the tubes collects filtered cleaned wastewater.
Racks of membranes are lowered into an aeration basin, thus known as an
internal configuration.
