                              When units are displayed as “ft x ft” this is viewed the same as when a number is

                              multiplied by itself.



                              For example, when you have 2 x 2 this can also be expressed as 2-squared or 2 .

                              Likewise, when units of distance are multiplied by each other, they are treated the

                              same way meaning ft x ft would be expressed as ft .

                              4 ft x 3 ft x 2 ft = 24 ft x ft x ft

                              In the example above, we have “ft x ft x ft” which is expressed as ft . Therefore:


                              4 ft x 3 ft x 2 ft = 24 ft or cubic feet
