The Relationship Between Distance and Volume cont.
Since volume is a measure of space occupied, and a unit of volume can be expressed
as units of distance cubed such as ft , m , cm , etc. this expands the common

English and Metric systems’ units of volume to include measures of distance-cubed,
and additional conversions exist as a result.
For example:
- 1 cubic foot (ft ) = 7.48 gallons

- 1 cubic centimeter (cm or cc) = 1 mL

- 1 cubic meter (m ) = 1,000 L
Additionally, when converting from one cubic measurement to another, it is
important to remember to cube the value as well. For example, there are 12 inches
in 1 foot; however, there are 12 in in 1 ft , or 1,728 in in every 1 ft .
