Answer 23 ECG Cases
Answer 23
VetBooks.ir 1 ECG 23 shows ventricular bigeminy (sinus beat followed by a ventricular beat).
2 • The QRS complex of the ventricular beat (circled) is wide and bizarre and has a negative deflection.
There are no P waves associated with these beats. Notice that the sinus beats all have P waves
preceding the QRS complex (arrows).
• The most common cause for ventricular arrhythmias in cats is cardiomyopathy and further
diagnostics, such as echocardiography, are recommended. This patient was diagnosed with
hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy.
• Other common diseases that can cause or exacerbate myocardial hypertrophy and associated
ventricular arrhythmias include systemic hypertension and hyperthyroidism. Blood pressure and
thyroid levels should both be acquired in cats with ventricular arrhythmias.
