Figure 22.30 Imaging of colonic adenocarcinoma. An 8-year-old domestic shorthair had a history of obstipation for six weeks. After
subtotal colectomy, histopathology indicated colonic adenocarcinoma. (a) On ultrasonography, the colon wall was greatly thickened.
Wall layers were not discernible. (b) The diameter of the distal colon was 2.34 cm. (c) In a transverse image, the wall measured 1.65 cm.
Notice the loss of wall layering. (d) Ultrasound image of a different cat with a colonic mass diagnosed as scirrhous adenocarcinoma
on histopathology following surgery. The wall measured 0.6 cm between the calipers. Wall layering was not discernible. On
radiographs, a metastatic lesion was seen in the right lung. (e) A focal mass in a 12-year-old cat was also adenocarcinoma on
histopathology but the mass was more mixed in echogenicity. (f) Multiple metastatic lesions were seen in the lung of the cat in (e).
