individual GFR for each kidney. The cat had an enlarged left kidney. Ultrasound-guided biopsies revealed pyogranulomatous
inflammation, necrosis, and evidence of prior hemorrhage. Nephrectomy was considered. Global GFR was 2.52 mL/min/kg (N >2.5), left
kidney 1.02, right kidney 1.50. Because global kidney function was marginal and the affected left kidney was contributing 40% of GFR,
nephrectomy was deemed likely to result in renal failure. Medical treatment was initiated instead.
