IGL Locus
VetBooks.ir Each lambda light chain is coded for by three genes. These are

called IGLV, IGLJ, and IGLC. The IGLV gene codes for the variable

region from the N-terminus to position 95. The IGLC gene codes for
the constant region starting at position 110. The amino acids
between 95 and 110 are coded for by IGLJ. The number of all three
of these genes varies among domestic species.

               IGK Locus

Kappa light chains are also coded for by three genes: IGKV, IGKJ,
               and IGKC.

               IGH Locus

Four genes, IGHV, IGHD, IGHJ and IGHC, code for
immunoglobulin heavy chains. The IGH locus contains close to 100
IGHV genes. It also contains multiple IGHJ genes situated 3′ to the

IGHV genes. Several short genes, called IGHD genes (D for
diversity), are located between the IGHV and IGHJ genes (see Fig.
17.3). The IGHC genes consist of a series of constant-region genes,

one for each heavy chain class and subclass, arranged in the order
               5′-Cµ-Cδ-Cγ-Cε-Cα-3′ along the chromosome.
