Diagnosis
Diagnosis is made on the clinical signs and ultrasonography. Any lameness should be
investigated as curbs do not always produce lameness.
Treatment
Treatment is not always necessary. If the horse is not lame, and the swelling is not sore, it
may just be regarded as a blemish.
Other cases are managed by:
• box rest with introduction of in-hand walking exercise after 2 weeks
• cold therapy
• NSAIDs, e.g. phenylbutazone, as necessary.
