        Prognosis

        The prognosis depends on which structures are damaged and ultrasonography is essential to

        establish this. Horses with plantar ligament desmitis generally respond well to conservative
        therapy if given adequate rest. The affected area frequently remains permanently thickened

        once healing is complete.
