With our horses, inner harmony is vital to enable them to both function and perform to
the best of their ability. The state of ‘optimum balance’ will of course vary, depending on the
VetBooks.ir age of the horse and the types of trauma or lifestyle changes they have experienced, or are
experiencing. Horses in their natural state were intended to roam free, with the opportunity to
run and interact with nature and the elements. Man has imposed unnatural constraints on
horses’ behaviour and in many cases they have no outlet for the frustration that these may
cause.
Healing is often called spiritual healing because it works deeply in the spirit, or essence,
of the individual, whatever the species. Healing energy aims to help recovery and this may
take place on a mental, emotional or physical level, or a combination of these. Because
healing reaches the soul, hands-on healing is a true holistic therapy for horses.
Hands-on healing energy should never be used as a substitute for, or alternative to,
veterinary care, but alongside it. It is a natural therapy that anyone can offer to their horse at
anytime. It can be used not just for problems, but also to strengthen the bond between human
and horse. It is not necessary to know that there is anything wrong with a horse to give
healing. This is because when signs of illness or emotional depletion show, the root cause
may have been brewing for some time.
In some trials with animals, healing was shown to have a positive benefit: a number of
animals who received healing prior to injury or surgery recovered more quickly than those in
the studies who did not receive healing. Thus healing is also useful for treating a horse post
injury or surgery.
Hands-on healing is not exclusive to a chosen few, but is accessible to everyone at
anytime, no matter what their beliefs or backgrounds. Horses do not have a faith in the
religious sense, yet they readily understand cosmic healing energy because they are so in tune
with the natural world around them. Everything on earth is connected and every life is part of
the whole, meaning that we all share a common energy that links to a universal source of life.
Each of us, including our horses, has an individual energy signature which is affected by the
subtle vibrations of all living creatures around us. Throughout our lives we are affected by
numerous factors including education, upbringing, diet, genetic inheritance, climate and
environment. All of these influences are reflected in our energy fields, thus we can affect the
behaviour or wellbeing of horses as we reflect either harmonious or chaotic energy, which the
horse can absorb. Unlike us, horses do not have the freedom to walk away from disturbing
situations and people. They become a mirror of our inner being and this is a good reason to
calmly send out positive loving thoughts when offering healing to them.
Thoughts are a powerful language and they create energy of their own, affecting
everything around us. What we are thinking is therefore vitally important when giving
