DIAGNOSIS
The diagnosis is easily confirmed by endoscopy of the guttural pouches. Plaques of fungal
growth which may be black, grey, white or yellow are visible in the roof of the pouch or on
folds of mucosa which contain nerves and blood vessels. Blood or pus may be seen within
the pouch or escaping from the opening of the pouch into the pharynx. Fluid lines within the
pouch are sometimes seen on radiography.
