Figure 18.43 Multiple squamous cell carcinoma lesions on a penis

        Behaviour

These tumours tend to grow slowly but on occasions can be rapidly invasive. On the whole,
they are slow to metastasize (spread).

        Diagnosis

The characteristic appearance and location of these lesions will immediately alert your vet to
the possibility of a squamous cell carcinoma. This is confirmed by biopsy. Sometimes lesions

on the penis can be very advanced before they are noticed. Blood dripping from the sheath
may be the first symptom noticed by an owner.

        Treatment

This depends on the size and site of the lesion. Surgical removal, together with a wide margin
