Fingal Farm Supply

Fertilizer Processing Facility

Engineering, design and zoning amendment assistance
provided by Stonecrest Engineering to expand an
existing 15,000 square foot facility into a 21,518 square
foot custom fertilizer storage and mixing facility.

In early 2017, planning started on an expansion of the Fingal Farm
Supply commercial fertilizer supply business in Fingal, Ontario. The
existing facility consisted of an 15,000 square foot commercial office
component with a small provision for fertilizer storage. Stonecrest’s
scope was to assist the client in amending the existing zoning to allow
partial demolition of the existing facility and providing the design and
engineering for a new 21,518 square foot bulk fertilizer ingredient
storage and mixing facility with automated conveyor and mixing
systems.
The new design included a 15,000 square foot commercial addition
with loading conveyor systems, more than a dozen storage bays
and an automated mixing and loading system, with the ability to
store, mix and provide loading of a number of fertilizer blends to
clients. Extended work was required with the conveyor supplier’s
engineering group to design efficient loading and unloading systems,
including a special platform design for fertilizer distribution.
Additional considerations were required with regards to the concrete
and finishes exposed to the stored fertilizer. Due to the corrosive
characteristics of the products being stored and moved around the
facility, exposed steel was not an option in the facility and all concrete
surfaces were designed with a surface sealer applied to combat the
corrosive effects of the fertilizer products.
With ground breaking in the summer of 2017, Fingal Farm Supply was
in full operation by late 2017 providing a multitude of custom fertilizer
