  Buntline coil or gasket coil: holds a made-up rope in position against a cleat, or when stowing a rope.
  Coil the rope in the usual way, and when you reach the last metre (yard) or so, wrap the end around
  the coils four or five times (figure 18.1). Next pass a bight through the upper part of the coil above

  the turns (figure 18.2), open it out and slip it forward over the top of the coil, then bring it down to lie
  on top of the turns (figure 18.3). It will then lock when the slack is taken up (figure 18.4); to release
  it, simply raise the bight back over the top of the coil.
