The Library Policies and Procedures , Collection Development, Organization and
Preservation of Library Materials and Resources

The library goals well- selected stock of general materials, books, periodicals and non-print
materials such e-books and e-journals. It also maintains and continuously enriches collection on
government publications, newspapers, pamphlets ,newspaper clippings, CDRs and IFSU
publications such as research journals, extension and training magazines and college newsletters.
There are substantial well selected professional/technical e-books and e-journals downloaded from
the science Direct database. The science direct database is provided by CHED selected recipients
of the Philippine e –libraries like IFSU. This database contains hundreds of thousands of
professional e-books and e-journals across disciplines. The provision of an internet library with 15
computer units and the access to the science direct enriched the library holdings as they supplement
the book and periodical holdings as they supplement the book and periodical holdings. The latest
breakthrough on the IFSU Library Collection Development Program is the Provision of the
STARBOOKS by STII-DOST , a database with digitized collection of information of different
formats in the field of science and technology. The STARBOOKS machine is accessible at the
               Reader’s Area and Periodical Section.

Purchase of books and other materials as well as equipment for the library is done
continuously to meet the varied demands of users. College/department librarians collate the needs
of the faculty in their respective disciplines and submit lists to the librarian for acquisition.

Upon the arrival of books/ materials, technical processes are immediately done. Newly
acquired books of the current calendar year are displayed at the latest book acquisition shelves.
The books are arranged according to the Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) System. Magazines
are properly labeled and are displayed in the Reading area. Duplicate copies of books and
periodicals that are not used by the students are kept in the stockroom while outdated titles are
removed from the circulation to maintain relevant updated collection.

Guidelines in the preservation of library resources are provided with a view to prolong their
life. Preservation refers to the treatment and repair of library resources to slow decay or restore
