Dhamma Investigation
We use the phrase Dhamma Investigation to translate the word Dhammavicaya (ธัมมวิจยะ). This refers to the careful contemplation of the natural conditions that we are experiencing. This is different from understanding through reasoning or deduction (Cintamayapanna, จินตมยปัญญา).
Doubt / Scepticism
We translate the word Vicikiccha (วิจิกิจฉา) as Doubt or Scepticism. Vicikiccha refers specifically to doubts or scepticism in the Teachings of the Buddha. Hence, it is one of the factors that will prevent our mind from progressing in dhamma and causing our mind to be downcast, gloomy.
Duration of Natural Conditions
When a phenomenon or a mind-object emerges, and causes us to feel happy, elated, sad, upset or angry. The quicker these feelings cease, the better. This is called Ayuarom (อายุอารมณ์), translated as the duration of natural conditions.
Experience
We use the word Experience rather generically to translate several Thai words, including Tamru (ตามรู้) and Tamdu (ตามดู). Tamru literally means to follow in order to know / to be aware of; while tamdu means to follow in order to observe. Experience (tamru) means to be right at the phenomenon, to concurrently experience its emergence-
